With Jim

My Purpose, Background,

and Core Values

Hey there! My name is Jim Shoemaker, and my goal as a health and wellness professional is to travel alongside you, guiding you along your journey towards making positive lifestyle changes and improving your overall well-being.

My ultimate aim is to support and inspire individuals to cultivate a healthy and balanced lifestyle that promotes long-term health and vitality.

This is not about trying a new diet, counting calories, or following a dedicated workout routine.

This is about keeping up with the grandkids. Or traveling the world more often without feeling winded. Maybe it's being able to take a walk in the park with less joint pain or getting stronger to be a better caretaker for a loved one.

My Background

After graduating from Baylor University, I spent a decade working in Parks & Recreation for cities in North Texas, including Denton and Carrollton, always with a focus on managing the fitness programs. I maintained a passion for health ever since I embarked on my own wellness journey many years ago, improving my aptitude and capacity for outdoor fun and adventure through weight loss. With more time, my eyes opened to the impact our lifestyle choices, behaviors, mindset, and habits have on the quality of our lives.

I began as a CrossFit Trainer and Certified Personal Trainer back in 2020 to serve individuals in my community. The next step was to become a nutrition coach, combining fitness with food, but it didn't seem to be enough. So I kept learning and growing, eventually becoming an ACE Certified Health Coach and then a National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach.

During my 8-5, I work for Aetna as a Health Coach serving individuals on Medicare that have either a disability or chronic health condition to improve their wellness.

My Values

Lacey and I have been together for over 15 years, married more than 10, and during our journey we have identified several core values that guide our actions.

The first is a commitment to our Community. Whether regarding friends, family, neighbors, stranger, or the people who come to me for health coaching, I always strive to ensure each person feels welcome and safe. We promote an inclusive environment, advocate for the disadvantaged, and aim to always build others up - not tear them down.

The second value is Growth in all aspects of our lives. Seeking more education, being open to new experiences, learning from someone else's perspective, constantly becoming a better human.

The third value is Health, but I don't just mean physical health. Of course we want to be strong enough to hike a mountain at a moment's notice or fit enough to roll around with puppies in the grass. But we can't ignore all the other aspects of life such as our mental health, spiritual health, or social health. To become a well-rounded human, we need a well-rounded approach to wellness.

The last value we hold dearly is a Sense of Wonder. For what is a life to live, if not to truly experience all the awe-inspiring moments this world has to offer?
